Tasmania no longer has a state program for batteries. The Energy Saver Loan Scheme, which offered interest-free loans of $500 to $10,000, closed on 1 September 2025 after its funding was used up. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount is the incentive available now.
The federal discount
It applies in every Tasmanian postcode with no income test. Its value depends on your battery's usable capacity and the date your installation is signed off. See your figure with the battery rebate calculator.
Feed-in tariffs
Tasmania is one of the few states with a regulated minimum solar feed-in tariff: 9.276 cents per kWh from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. A higher feed-in tariff means each kWh you export is worth more, so the extra value from storing it in a battery is smaller than in states where exports earn very little. Solar
Solar panels get the federal discount (STCs), usually taken off the quote price. Hobart is in the lowest solar zone, so the discount per kW is smaller than on the mainland. Our guide to the solar panel rebate shows how it is worked out.
