Canberra households get the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and the ACT adds help with finance. Concession card holders may also get rebates.
Sustainable Household Scheme
- 3% interest loans from $2,000 to $20,000, over up to 10 years, with no fees.
- Covers batteries and other upgrades such as heat pumps and electric vehicles.
- Rooftop solar is not covered for general households.
- Previous participants, and those who applied before 1 July 2026, are capped at $15,000 in total.
- You need to own the home, complete a short workshop and pass a credit check.
A loan is still debt. Compare the repayments with what the battery is likely to do for your bills before you commit.
Home Energy Support (concession card holders)
If you hold a Pensioner Concession Card, DVA Gold Card or Health Care Card and own and live in your home, you may be able to get:
- 50% of the cost of rooftop solar, up to $2,500.
- 50% of the cost of other upgrades, up to $2,500.
- A 0% loan of up to $10,000.
Land value limits apply: up to $750,000 for a house or $300,000 for an apartment.
