The Northern Territory's Home and Business Battery Scheme paid $400 per kWh of usable capacity, up to $12,000. It has now used its $6 million funding allocation and is closed to new grants. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount is the incentive you can count on today.
The federal discount
It applies across the Territory with no income test. Its value depends on your battery's usable capacity and the date your installation is signed off. Work out your figure with the battery rebate calculator.
If you already applied to the NT scheme
The NT Government says applications that were submitted but not approved, and any new ones, will only be considered if funding becomes available. There is no guarantee an application will be assessed. Do not sign a contract that depends on the grant unless you have a written approval.
Solar and feed-in tariffs
Darwin sits in a higher solar zone than the southern capitals, so solar panels earn more certificates per kW. Jacana Energy's published feed-in rates for 2026-27 are 9.33 cents per kWh at any time and 18.66 cents per kWh between 3pm and 9pm for homes with a smart meter. See our guide to feed-in tariffs.
