Batteries

Fridge and lights only. How long would a battery last in a blackout?

The quote includes backup for the fridge, internet and a few lights. The salesperson said 'overnight should be fine', but didn't say how much charge that assumes. How do I get a useful estimate instead of a best-case answer?

Ask them to list everything on those circuits and estimate its energy use overnight. Then get estimates for a full battery and for your chosen reserve level. A blackout won't always start with it full.

Also ask about the fridge starting up, not just its normal running power. That's one I'd leave to the installer to check.

That's what was bothering me. I'll ask them to use the reserve setting and assume no solar overnight. Our switchboard labels are a bit of a mystery too, so I'll get the circuit list checked.
